The Archival Series celebrates The Macallan’s legendary advertising campaigns from the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s, which helped give this distinguished single malt the cult status it enjoys today.
The series is to consist of 24 editions, the first of which, Folio 1, hit the market in 2015.
The fifth whisky in the series, Folio 5, was released in 2019 and features an advert featuring the story of a ‘Luggy Bonnet’ (in this case a Deerstalker hat with earflaps and two peaks, a favourite headgear of Sherlock Holmes). The sketch depicts two gentlemen at the end of a Speyside hunt, one of whom recounts the ‘disaster’ of missing an invitation to a hunting toast where The Macallan was served because the earflaps on his hat were down. The verse ‘Keep this knot firmly tied’ (in this case ‘keep your ears uncovered’) precedes the simple and powerful advertising slogan used in campaigns for many years – ‘The Macallan. The Malt’.
