Product description
With global sales of 4.4 million cases (2018), Bombay ranks second on the list of most popular gins (first is Gordon's with 6.5 million cases).
The original formula for this gin was developed by Thomas Dakin in 1761, and then "improved" several times. The "Bombay" brand did not appear on the market until 1960 thanks to New York lawyer Alain Subin, who thus joined the alcoholic beverage industry. The rights to it were soon purchased by United Distillers & Vintners (operating as part of the Grand Metropolitan concern), and finally, since 1997, the owner of the brand has been Bacardi Ltd. Bacardi, in turn, outsources the distillation of Bombay to G&J Greenall. The latest version of this gin is Bombay Bramble, debuting in March 2020. The formula of the standard Bombay Dry contains eight botanical ingredients: juniper berries, coriander seeds, orris roots, angelica and licorice, lemon peel, bitter almonds and cassia bark. In the case of Bombay Bramble, the ingredients are “picked at the peak of ripeness, blackberries and raspberries.” Bacardi emphasizes the fact that no sugar is added in its production.
Bombay Bramble combines the characteristics of a standard London Dry gin with the sweetness of blackberries and raspberries. We recommend serving it in a classic Bramble cocktail or with a mild tonic with a wedge of lemon and a few blackberries.
