Product description
The Macallan presented here, an edition of Row & Co. (Distillers) Ltd, is a rarer specimen than the proverbial white crow. Founded in 1934, Row & Co. was a subsidiary of Robertson & Co. (later Robertson & Baxter) and was to act as a commercial agent for the North British Grain Distillery, and in particular to cooperate with gin producers. We remember that in 1887 the Highland Distillers company was established, one of the founders of which was the Robertson family. Its portfolio included, among others, the Glenrothes, Bunnahabhain and Highland Park distilleries, the company also had a large share in The Macallan Distillery. We also remember that in 1933 Prohibition was repealed in the States. Soon Row & Co. (Distillers) Ltd. began bottling The Macallan for the American company British American Importation Co. Ltd based in Los Angeles. We cannot clearly state whether the bottle presented here, with an unusual capacity of 4/5 quart of a US gallon (757ml), contains whisky distilled in the first or second decade of the 20th century, but it is possible that it comes from before World War II.
The Macallan is undoubtedly the most collectible whisky of our time. Its prestige dates back to the 1950s, when the management focused on the expansion and sale of The Macallan in the single malt version . The following years only strengthened the brand's fame, which currently achieves extremely high prices at auctions, breaking its own records - in October 2019, at an auction held in London by Sotheby's, an anonymous buyer paid £1.5 million for a bottle of The Macallan 60 years old, distilled 1926, setting another record. There is a chance that our bottle contains The Macallan distilled earlier.
