Product description
Based on the Isle of Mull, the second largest island in the Inner Hebrides, Tobermory is one of Scotland's most beautifully situated distilleries.
Its construction began in 1798, but production did not begin in full swing until a quarter of a century later. The name of the distillery comes from the Gaelic Tobar Mhoire, which translates to "Mary's Well". Centuries ago, right next to the settlement of Tobermory, today's capital of the island (population of about 900 souls), there was a well dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary. In 1993, the distillery became the property of Burn Stewart Distillers, since 2013 part of the South African Distell Group. Tobermory is primarily a producer of two single malts (Tobermory and Ledaig), the gin presented here debuted in 2019, distilled in a restored still imported from South Africa by John Dore & Co. Its formula contains 13 botanicals, of which the company reveals only a few – juniper berries, tea, heather, elderberry and orange peel – and a small amount of unaged whisky.
In the aromatic bouquet of Tobermory gin we find notes of juniper, coriander, citrus and a trace of barley malt. In taste juniper, coriander and fresh herbs balanced by the sweetness of orange peel and a subtle hint of lemon. The producer recommends serving it with premium tonics with the addition of blood orange, a sprig of thyme and a dry hibiscus petal.
