Product description
The Macallan Fine & Rare Collection is a series of vintage The Macallans providing an overview of the distillery's activities from the 1920s to the end of the last century.
It debuted in 2002, and the first batch consisted of over 20 vintages, starting with the 1926 Vintage. The following years brought more releases, currently exceeding 60. Each bottle is secured with a special code and can be located from the distillery. The Fine & Rare series regularly breaks its own records at whisky auctions, and it seems that the price limit is... none. In 2014, a set of 40 bottles from the 1937-1972 vintages was sold in New York for $430,000. Less than two years later, a collection consisting of the 1937-1990 vintages found a buyer for half a million dollars. However, this is just a foretaste; in October 2019, Sotheby's auction house announced the sale of The Macallan Fine & Rare 1926 Vintage for almost $1.9 million, mentioning that the largest Fine & Rare collection, vintages 1926-1991, went under the hammer for $6.6 million.
The Macallan 1962 presented here is a true rarity of the collection. The whisky was bottled in the 1970s for the Asian market as a 15-year-old, then returned to the distillery (we don't know the details) to join the Fine & Rare series under a new label (the edition consisted of 141 bottles). We probably won't surprise anyone with the lack of a tasting note, unfortunately our taste buds won't be pampered by this nectar. All we can do is return to the great hit by Aerosmith from 1973 and hum Dream on...
