Product description
Based on the Isle of Islay, Bunnahabhain Distillery has been producing whisky since 1881, somewhat overshadowed by powerhouses such as Ardbeg and Laphroaig.
The current one belongs to Burn Stewart Distillers, which in turn has been part of the Distell group from South Africa since 2013. In sales statistics, Bunnahabhain single malt is quite far behind the aforementioned giants from the island, although its sales have increased by 100% in the last five years. The Ian Macleod Distillers edition presented here in the Dun Bheagan series is a whisky distilled in February 2002, aged for 14 years in a 714 butt sherry cask and released at cask strength and without chill filtration in an edition of 596 bottles.
Nose : strong notes of sherry, coffee beans, dark chocolate, dried plums and cherries, raisins, traces of sea grass and dried mushrooms, a touch of leather and oak.
Palate: nicely balanced, sherry, raisins, black cherries, prunes, dark chocolate, roasted almonds, pepper, notes of cinnamon and sherry-soaked oak.
Finish: quite long, with notes of dark chocolate, espresso, raisins, pepper and a subtle bitterness of oak.
