Product description
The original formula for Citadelle gin was developed in Dunkirk in 1771, and four years later King Louis XVI commissioned the construction of a distillery to produce it in the citadel there.
More than 200 years later, Alexander Gabriel, founder of Maison Ferrand, after studying the history of Citadelle gin, decided to revive the brand. Citadelle Gin de France debuted in 1995 as a forerunner of the premium category, with the Réserve version appearing in 2008. The standard formula lists 19 botanicals – juniper berries, almonds, angelica, cardamom, cinnamon bark, cinnamon, coriander, cubeb pepper, cumin, fennel, grains of paradise, lemon and orange peel, licorice, nutmeg, anise, savory and violets – Réserve includes an additional three: blueberries, wormwood and yuzu. Citadelle Réserve is matured in five types of barrels – French oak, acacia, chestnut, cherry and mulberry. 2016 brought several experimental editions, including No Mistake Old Tom Gin – Citadelle Réserve with the addition of caramelized brown sugar aged for three to four months in cognac barrels.
Citadelle No Mistake is a gin that combines the sweetness of brown sugar and citrus with subtle notes of juniper, almond, nutmeg, pepper and cinnamon. We recommend using it in Tom Collins and Astoria cocktails, as well as trying it with just an ice cube.
