Product description
Yamazaki, built in 1923 by Shinjiro Torii, is Japan's first malt distillery.
Shinjiro, whose mission was to produce local whisky that would appeal to the palette of Japanese consumers, did not foresee that it would achieve global triumph in the 21st century. However, this comes at a price – the lack of sufficient old stocks to meet the demand. Yamazaki 12 years old debuted in 1984 and was the first Japanese single malt whisky to be promoted with significant resources and modern marketing mechanisms. It is a blend of distillates aged in bourbon and sherry barrels with a small addition of Japanese oak barrels (Mizunara).
Aroma : fresh and fruity, spring meadow, apples, pears, nectarines, vanilla, honey, banana cake, traces of cinnamon, coconut flakes and oak.
Palate : mild, sweet breakfast cereals, honey, vanilla cream, sugared almonds, baked apples, cinnamon, white pepper, a handful of fresh herbs and a trace of oak shavings.
Finish: medium long, with notes of vanilla, toffee, pears, quince jam, a pinch of pepper and a subtle bitterness of oak.
