Product description
The fifteenth batch of BenRiach Single Cask hit the market in the summer of 2018 and brought a cross-section of the distillery’s stock.
Rachel Barrie, the BenRiach Distillery Company blender, selected 17 barrels, six of which were filled with a smoky-peated whisky. Her choice fell on barrels from sherry, port, rum, Sauternes, Marsala, Burgundy, Moscatel and virgin oak, and she described it as a “nod to creativity in the field of whisky distillation and maturation”. The 26-year-old BenRiach presented here is the oldest whisky in the list – distilled on August 19, 1991 and aged in a red Burgundy barrique (no. 6898). The contents of the barrel translated into 270 bottles of cask strength whisky (49.4% abv). (Producer’s tasting note.)
Aroma: an old winery cellar filled with barrels of red wine, subtle tones of Armagnac, walnut husks and the threshing floor of a storage warehouse.
Palate: the sweetness of ripe, juicy figs and apricots announcing the sweetness of grape candy, milk fudge and toffee syrup.
