- The XOP range was introduced in 2014 by Fred Laing, who parted ways with his brother and business partner Stewart the year before, splitting portfolio of Douglas Laing & Co.
Product description
Fred Laing's XOP series debuted in 2014, a dozen or so months after the division of Douglas Laing & Co.'s assets between the two Laing brothers.
XOP stands for Xtra Old Particular and refers to the finest single malt and single grain casks from the family stock. The Jura 40 years old presented here was distilled in December 1976 and aged for 4 decades in a refilled bourbon cask no. DL 12264. Bottled in November 2017 at cask strength (54.1% abv) and without chill filtration in a limited edition of just 33 bottles. Due to the extremely low mintage of this edition, we provide the producer's tasting note.
Aroma: rich notes of barley malt, butter and honey delicately balanced by tobacco.
Taste : an explosion of vanilla and barley malt, after a while giving way to warming notes of pepper, a bit of ginger and salty caramel.
Finish: a combination of the sweetness of golden syrup with a mild spiciness, a breath of earth and a slight whiff of peat smoke.
