Product description
The Wild Turkey brand officially debuted in 1942.
A few years earlier, the president of Austin, Nichols & Co., a distributor of alcoholic beverages, took a bottle of bourbon from the company's stock (probably JTS Brown) to the annual wild turkey hunt. The participants of the hunt, apparently delighted with the drink, named it Wild Turkey whiskey. It was not until 1970 that Austin, Nichols & Co. became the owner of a distillery in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, which is still the home of Wild Turkey bourbon. Rare Breed, a creation of Jimmy Russell, the legendary master distiller, debuted in 1991, made from distillates aged for 6, 8 and 12 years, and was the first small batch edition in the company's offer. Since 2009, Wild Turkey (the distillery and the brand) have belonged to Gruppo Campari.
