Product description
Aultmore Distillery was established in 1896 as an investment by Alexander Edward, owner of Benrinnes.
John Dewar & Sons took over in 1923 and two years later it and all its assets became part of DCL. Aultmore has always been a key component of Dewar's blends and throughout the last century single malts were rare. Glen Grant 5-year-old was a huge success in Italy in the 1970s and other distilleries followed suit. The Aultmore shown here, bottled by John & Robert Harvey & Co. (a subsidiary of DCL) in the late 1970s, was also intended for the Italian market and is now almost impossible to find.
Nose: definitely "old school", wax, damp gravel, a bouquet of dry flowers, apples, pears, traces of mint and eucalyptus and a bit of smoke in the background.
Taste: herbal-mineral, white pepper, lemongrass, ginger, salted nuts, licorice and light peat notes.
Finish: long, with notes of pepper, ginger, green apples, hay and a handful of garden herbs.
