Product description
Shinjiro Torii, founder of Suntory, is the undisputed pioneer of Japanese whisky. He began his career in 1899, and his first whisky, Shirofuda, debuted in April 1929 to dismal reception.
Two “improved” versions, Akafuda and Tokkaku, were not much more successful, and were released over the next two years. Finally, in 1937, the company offered something more appealing to the Japanese palette, the delicate Kakubin. Its name means “angular bottle,” referring to the unique shape of the bottle in which the drink is presented. Today, Kakubin is the most popular Japanese whisky, selling more than 3.3 million cases a year.
