Product description
Ardbeg Distillery was founded in 1815 by John McDougall. Its name is a transcription of the Gaelic "ad bheag" meaning "the little hill".
The distillery went bankrupt in 1835, and in 1922 it returned to the founding family, who managed it until 1959, when Ardbeg Distillery Ltd was established. In the 1960s and 1970s, demand for smoky and peated whisky increased and Ardbeg worked at full speed. Until 1977, a malting house operated on site. And this date marks the end of the original Ardbeg style for the most dedicated connoisseurs. Here we present an absolute rarity, Ardbeg 1965 bottled in cask strength (54.4% abv) after 24 years of maturation for the legendary Italian distributor Sestante by the Scottish company Wm Cadenhead & Co.
Nose: complex, slightly metallic, delicate peat notes, camphor, iodine, fishing net, forest floor, apples, limes, lapsang souchong tea, a handful of dry herbs and a trace of leather.
Palate: perfect balance, grapefruit, orange, dried herbs, eucalyptus, camphor, pepper, licorice, dark chocolate, sea salt and peat smoke in the background.
Finish: very long, herbal-spicy, tobacco, dark chocolate, delicate fruit and peat notes.
