Product description

The Macallan Distillery was registered in 1824 by Alexander Reid. It was originally called Elchies, but in 1892 new owner Roderick Kemp changed it to The Macallan-Glenlivet (the ‘Glenlivet’ suffix was removed in 1982).

The Macallan 7 years old debuted in the early 1980s. The whisky was aged in sherry casks and bottled exclusively for the Italian importer, Giovinetti & Figli from Milan. (Armando Giovinetti, who brought Glen Grant to Italy in the 1970s, is considered the creator of the whisky market in that country.) At that time, Italians preferred young single malts and The Macallan successfully competed with 5-year-old editions from Aberlour, Glen Grant and Balblair. The Macallan 7 years disappeared from the offer at the beginning of the new millennium.

Nose: fresh with notes of malt and sherry, wax, honey, apple pie, grapes, caramel, milk fudge, mixed nuts and a hint of garden herbs.

Taste : pleasantly balanced, although not too complex, apples, oranges, plums, honey, tobacco leaves, hazelnuts, cocoa and pepper.

Finish : medium long, malty, slightly nutty, oak combined with sherry and pepper.
