The first of the distilleries built in Dufftown, Mortlach Distillery has had a close association with Johnnie Walker blends for almost a century.
In 1923, the plant became the property of John Walker & Sons, and to this day, the whisky there plays a key role in the Black Label formula. The plant currently belongs to Diageo and produces around 3.8 million liters of distillate per year, using its full production capacity. The Mortlach 2005 Vintage presented here is a proposal from Douglas McGibbon Co. in The Clan Denny series from May 2017. The whisky spent over 12 years in a refill hogshead cask no. DMG 11769, and the edition consisted of 390 bottles. Douglas McGibbon is a subsidiary of Douglas Laing & Co., a renowned bottler and distributor of whisky.
Nose : sweet, vanilla, toffee, honey, sponge cake, breakfast cereals, apples, peaches, white pepper and traces of oak.
Palate: mild and fresh, buttered toast, vanilla cream, toffee, caramel, apples baked with a hint of cinnamon, traces of lemongrass and oak.
Finish : medium long, with notes of vanilla, toffee, milk chocolate, a pinch of pepper and a light oak bitterness.
