Product description
Glenturret, located in Perthshire in the southern Highlands, is Scotland's oldest distillery. It was registered in 1775, but records show that whisky was being produced there as early as 1717.
From 1921 to 1959, the distillery was closed, the distilling equipment was removed and the buildings were used as grain warehouses. Glenturret is now the spiritual home of Famous Grouse, the most popular Scotch whisky in its native Scotland, with global sales of around 40 million bottles a year. The 1966 Vintage edition presented here is a proposition from another era. The whisky spent around 27 years in oak casks and was bottled at a natural alcohol content of 80 British proof, or 45.7% abv.
Nose: classic Highlander, rich and complex, slightly floral, honey, vanilla, walnuts, raisins, milk chocolate, apples, orange peel and a fleeting trace of peat.
Palate: very complex, beautifully incorporated tones of sherry, honey-roasted almonds, raisins, dried figs, candied orange peel, toffee and a hint of peat smoke in the background.
Finish: long, nutty and fruity, with notes of honey, toffee and to a lesser extent oak.
