In 2014, for the first time in the history of single malt sales statistics (since at least 1963), Glenlivet outsold Glenfiddich.
A year later, however, the situation returned to normal and Glenfiddich, with sales of 13.1 million bottles, overtook Glenlivet by over 140 thousand bottles and regained the crown. Currently, the distillery is expanding and after the completion of the project at the end of 2018, its capacity will increase to 20 million liters of distillate per year. Glenfiddich single malt is present in every sales segment, the plant offers both inexpensive editions bottled without an age statement, as well as strictly limited ones, containing old and rare whiskies. The latter includes the presented here Glenfiddich 1978, a whisky aged for 38 years in a single barrel (no. 28117) and bottled in the cask strength version (56.3% abv). The edition consisted of 159 bottles.
The whisky reveals aromas of pears, bananas, summer meadow, orange marmalade, toffee, oak and garden herbs. In taste velvety delicate, rich in vanilla and toffee sweetness, complemented by citrus and juicy fruit from grandma's orchard and subtle oak bitterness.
