Product description
Hombo Shuzo Group Ltd., owner of the Shinshu distillery and a second distillery, Tsunuki, which is scheduled to open in November 2016.
The company obtained a license to produce alcohol in 1949, but for the first 10 years of its operation it only bought ready-made distillates and made its own blends from them. Hombo Shuzo's turbulent history included repeated - and so far unsuccessful - attempts to start producing whisky, in addition to beer, umeshu and a few other types of spirits. In 1985, the Shinshu distillery was launched in Nagano Prefecture, but it had to be closed in 1992. It was not until 2011, on the wave of interest in whisky, that the distillery was reopened. In 2014, the stills were replaced, which are now used to produce four types of distillate - peatless and peated at three different levels of peat (3.5, 12 and 50 ppm). Mars Maltage Whisky, part of the Cosmo series, is a standard blended whisky, composed of distillates from Shinshu, as well as Scotch whiskies, the producers of which have not been disclosed.
