Product description
Kura is a whisky brand from the Okinawa-based Helios Distillery portfolio, which began in 1961 as a producer of rums and amawori (an alcoholic beverage distilled from rice exclusively in Okinawa).
The company tried its hand at producing whiskey in the 1980s, but the venture was a flop and was abandoned in the last century (the 1980s were disastrous for whiskey producers around the world). The Kura Blended Malt presented here debuted in 2018. It is made from single malt Scotch whiskeys and finished in barrels of its own rum. Of course, the list of ingredients remains the creator's secret.
Nose : barley malt, autumn leaves, forest floor, dried apples and apricots, buttered toast, brown sugar, a pinch of salt and pepper and a touch of oak.
Palate : mild, peat smoke, brown sugar, vanilla, sweet breakfast cereals, salted nuts, white pepper, traces of citrus and oak.
Finish : medium long, with notes of peat smoke, burnt rubber, brown sugar, cereal, banana, pepper and oak.
