Glen Ord Distillery is located in Muir of Ord in Northern Highlands. It was founded in 1838 by Thomas Mackenzie and in 1923 sold to John Dewar & Sons.
Glen Ord malt has been closely associated with Dewar’s brand ever since. Currently the distillery is owned by Diageo and after 2015 expansion remains second largest malt distillery in the company portfolio (right after Roseisle). The 12 years old expression was very popular in the 1990s, it scored gold medal at the 1994 International Wine & Spirits Competition.
Nose: malty and spicy with notes of sherry, vanilla, caramel, raisins, apples, prunes, dried apricots, cinnamon, nutmeg and hints of peat.
Palate: round, sweet cereals, prunes, dried dates and figs, toffee, vanilla, cinnamon, candied ginger, pepper and delicate oaky notes
Finish: pretty long, spicy, with rather shy fruity notes.
