Product description
Eigashima Shuzo was founded in 1919, making it the oldest whisky producer in Japan, even older than Yamazaki (1923).
However, Eigashima Shuzo is primarily a producer of sake and shochu. Their first malt whisky did not appear on the market until 2007, almost a hundred years after the company was founded.
The White Oak Distillery, dedicated to whisky within Eigashima Shuzo, was built in 1984 in Akashi, Hyogo Prefecture. After experimenting with different levels of malt peatification, the distillery now relies on lightly peated malt (5 ppm). The whisky produced here matures in warehouses on the distillery’s premises, on the shores of the Akashi Strait, which divides the islands of Honshu and Awaji.
Akashi White Oak Meïsei is a blended whisky made from 45% malt whisky matured in bourbon barrels. The word "meïsei" means fame or celebrity in Japanese.
