Product description
The undisputed rarity in our collection, 1937 The Macallan-Glenlivet, bottled in the early 1970s by Gordon & MacPhail for the Italian importer Pinerolo.
The Macallan Distillery was founded in 1824 by Alexander Reid and is now part of The Edrington Group. In the early 1970s, Seagram changed the formula for the Chivas Regal blend , dropping The Macallan as a key ingredient. At that time, The Macallan’s then-CEO, Allan Shiah, focused on promoting his single malt whisky . The 1937 Vintage Edition looks more like a museum exhibit than a bottle of whisky, an amber spirit distilled over 75 years ago presented in a stylish crystal decanter that adds an antique touch to the whole thing. For decades, The Macallan has been a hit at auctions, and also holds the record for the most expensive whisky sold – in 2010, an anonymous buyer paid $460,000 for a crystal Lalique Cire Perdue decanter filled with 64-year-old The Macallan, distilled 1946.
