Historia ginu rozpoczyna się w lipcu 1945 roku, kiedy brytyjski komandor lotnictwa Montgomery Collins przybył do Berlina jako jeden z brytyjskich administratorów. Collins był poruszony ogromem zniszczeń miasta. Zadeklarował swoją pomoc przy odbudowie berlińskiego zoo i zasponsorował małpę o imieniu Max. Po zakończeniu służby Collins pozostał w Niemczech i otworzył pensjonat w Schwarzwaldzie, gdzie zajmował się również produkcją wyśmienitego ginu o nazwie "The Wild Monkey" na cześć Maxa. Produkcja ginu trwała do lat 70'. Po 40 latach historią ginu zainteresował się Alexander Stein ze znanej rodziny gorzelników, który postanowił odtworzyć legendarny trunek. Przybył do Schwarzwaldu i wraz z Kellerem odtworzył gin nazywając go Monkey 47. Liczba 47 nawiązuje do ilośi ziół, roślin i owoców używanych do produkcji trunku.

Monkey 47 is a German gin distilled at Christoph Keller's distillery, located in the Black Forest.
The story of gin begins in July 1945, when British Air Commodore Montgomery Collins arrived in Berlin as one of the British administrators of the. Collins was moved by the enormity of the city's destruction. He pledged his help to rebuild the Berlin Zoo and sponsored a monkey named Max. After leaving the service, Collins remained in Germany and opened a guesthouse in the Black Forest, where he also produced an exquisite gin called "The Wild Monkey" in honor of Max. Gin production continued into the 1970's. After 40 years, the history of gin became of interest to Alexander Stein of a well-known family of distillers, who decided to recreate the legendary beverage. He came to the Black Forest and together with Keller recreated the gin calling it Monkey 47. The number 47 refers to the amount of herbs, plants and fruits used in the production and the strength of the liquor. The leading ingredients of the gin are juniper, lavender, musk, Madagascar aphramon, scarlet pyrethrum, spruce cones, holly and coriander.
