Gentleman Jack debuted in 1988 and was the first item included in Jack Daniel's permanent offering since Old No.7 Brand. What distinguishes Tennessee Whisky from bourbon is the filtration of the fresh distillate through a 10-foot layer of maple charcoal What distinguishes standard Jack from Gentleman Jack is the use of this process both before maturation and after maturation, immediately before bottling the whiskey. Gentleman Jack is the brainchild of Lincoln Henderson (died 2013), longtime master distiller of the Brown-Forman corporation. It was meant to show the gentle side of a shy though very determined man who devoted his entire life to whiskey.
