Product description
Mackessack Whisky is named after Douglas Mackessack, grandson of "Major" James Grant, owner of the Glen Grant Distillery from 1872 to 1931.
In 1929, "Major" offered his grandson a management position at the distillery; two years later, Mackessack became general manager. In 1961, he met an Italian businessman and distributor of alcoholic beverages, Armando Giovinetti. The gentlemen became friends, and Giovinetti introduced the Glen Grant single malt to the Italian market, which is still breaking popularity records there. In 1978, Mackessack oversaw the sale of the distillery to Canadian Seagram; he died in October 1987. Mackessack blended whisky was originally blended with a high percentage of single malts for the Italian market. We do not know all of its components, but we do know that the formula was built around the Glen Grant single malt.
Nose: mild and fresh, spring meadow, green apples and pears, vanilla, butter biscuits, lemon peel, notes of hay and oak shavings.
Palate: sweet cereals, vanilla, milk fudge, baked apples sprinkled with brown sugar and delicate herbal and oak notes.
Finish: medium long, with notes of breakfast cereal, summer fruits, vanilla, honey, a touch of kitchen spices and oak.
