The 1824 Collection was launched in 2009 as Travel Retail exclusive with the high-end expression of the range Oscuro, joining the following year.
Oscuro means ‘Dark” in Spanish and whisky for that edition is drawn exclusively from oak casks seasoned with sherry Oloroso. High proportion of these are first fill what contributes to whisky deep color and intense flavor. After cask selection process has been completed the alcohol content is reduced to 46.5% and whisky is married for at least six moths to integrate flavors and aromas. Oscuro is bottled without chill-filtration and alike all recent Macallan expressions carries no age statement.
Nose: very rich with strong sherry notes, raisins, prunes, dried figs and apricots, dark berries, toffee, vanilla, dark chocolate, candied orange peel, nutmeg, cinnamon, traces of espresso and tobacco.
Palate: complex and perfectly balanced, dried dates and figs, blackberries, cherries, bitter orange marmalade, double espresso, cinnamon, cloves and oak.
Finish: endlessly long, with notes of espresso, chocolate-coated cherries, bitter oranges, cinnamon and oak.
