Xellent Swiss Edelweiss Gin / 40% / 0.7l

Xellent is a brand from the portfolio of the Swiss Distillerie Willisau SA, which includes rye vodka and Edelweiss gin.

The company was founded in the 1920s, currently employs over 100 people and offers a wide range of regional alcoholic beverages. The formula of Xellent Edelweiss gin lists 25 botanical ingredients, it is distilled in a traditional copper still, and the water after production comes from the Tiltis glacier. The company does not disclose the full list of ingredients, a few of them, such as lavender and lemon balm, come from the garden of master distiller Franz Huber; the rest include woodruff, elderberry flowers and edelweiss collected in the surrounding forests. Some of the herbs, flowers and berries are dried, then mixed, according to the formula, with their fresh counterparts, and finally macerated for several hours in rye vodka of its own production. In 2012, Xellent Swiss Edelweiss gin won a gold medal at the World Spirits Competition. (Official tasting note.)

In the aromatic bouquet we discover the fresh scent of mountain meadow and wildflowers, juniper and citrus. On the palate the drink is very mild, although spicy notes dominate. In the finish again juniper and a subtle aftertaste of lemon balm. Xellent Swiss Edelweiss gin fully deserves to be tasted only with an ice cube, we also recommend it in a classic Martini.
