In 2012, after over a hundred years, Scotland's largest city of Glasgow welcomed a new malt whisky producer. The Glasgow Distillery Company was founded in 2012 by Liam Hughes, Mike Hayward and Ian McDougall.
The distillery, equipped with three stills (the fourth is used for gin production), first distilled in March 2015, and three years later, Glasgow 1770 The Original debuted (the year 1770 refers to the Dundashill Distillery, which operated nearby from 1770 to 1902). In 2023, Glasgow 1770 The Original received a cask strength edition. Batch No. 1 was a blend of three barrels and consisted of 750 bottles. The whisky was aged in first-fill bourbon barrels and finished in virgin oak casks, and bottled at 61.3% ABV, natural color, and unchill-filtered.
