Product description
Tomintoul Distillery is located in Speyside, in the parish of Glenlivet, and shares its name with the nearby village, the highest settlement in the Scottish Highlands.
The distillery was founded in 1964 as an investment by two Glasgow whisky wholesalers, Hay & MacLeod and W. & S. Strong. Their merger with Whyte & Mackay in the early 1970s saw Tomintoul whisky become a key component of Whyte & Mackay blends. The last transfer of ownership took place in 2000, when it was taken over by Angus Dundee Distillers, who soon began promoting the distillery’s single malt. One of its latest initiatives is the Small Batch series, which currently has seven finishes – PX sherry, Caribbean rum, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Tawny Port, white Port and the cognac presented here.
Aroma: apples, lemon peel, honey, vanilla, roasted chestnuts, almond croissant, chamomile tea, notes of licorice and anise.
Palate: dried pears and apples, walnuts, toffee, vanilla, sponge cake, sugared almonds, notes of ginger and a trace of tobacco.
Finish: medium long, with notes of milk chocolate, caramel, vanilla, nutmeg, ginger and oak.
