Product description
Charles Smith founded his company in 2001 after spending several years traveling to other Washington wineries, studying the ins and outs of viticulture and winemaking, and planting his own vines in 1999. Over the years, he has created many of his own wine brands, including some reserved. Combined production of all labels is 650,000 cases per year, making him one of the top producers in the region.
In all of his vineyards, Charles places great emphasis on sustainable farming, using traditional farming methods and minimizing the use of chemicals in both vineyards and winemaking. He sells mostly single-varietal products under his labels, expressing his style and showing that it is possible to make quality wines at an affordable price.
The Velvet Devil Merlot 2019 Washington State / 13.5% / 0.75l
A wonderfully made Merlot, expressive and intense, yet smooth and elegant. The addition of 10% Cabernet Sauvignon adds body and harmony. The nose is full of aromas of black fruit, currants and blackberries. Additionally, there are accents of cedar wood and tobacco leaves. On the palate it is full and rounded, boldly presenting the flavors of fruit combined with clear, quite fleshy tannin and balanced acidity. The finish is long and, like the whole wine, quite intense, with slightly spicy accents.
It tastes best served at a temperature of 16-18 degrees. It is perfect as a solo drink, decanting is recommended before serving to ensure the wine has the optimal level of aeration, thanks to which it can present all its qualities. In culinary combinations, it works well with pork in heavier sauces, grilled red meats with a lot of spices, as well as with soft, medium-aromatic cheeses.
