Old Ripy Bourbon debuted in 2017 as the first entry in “The Whiskey Barons Collection” from the Campari group (the Italian company owns Wild Turkey Distillery).
James Ripy came to America from Ireland and settled in Anderson County, Kentucky, in 1830. There he opened a distillery and produced Ripy bourbon from 1868. Today, the Wild Turkey distillery is located on the property. The Old Ripy presented here is a blend of local bourbons aged for 6, 8 and 12 years (Wild Turkey's mash bill lists 75% corn, 13% rye and 12% malted barley). Old Ripy is released at 52% abv in 0.375 l bottles. The next entry in the "The Whiskey Barons" series was Bond & Dillard bourbon.
Nose: toasted oak, vanilla, caramel, toffee, roasted peanuts, banana cake, raisins, black pepper and traces of polished leather.
Palate : slightly oily, vanilla, toffee, bubble gum, bananas, grilled corn, nougat, cloves, cinnamon, a touch of black pepper, notes of leather and oak.
Finish : medium long, with notes of vanilla, toffee, popcorn, cinnamon, black pepper and oak.
