Caol Ila CI14, Elements of Islay/ 50.1%/ 0.5l

The Elements of Islay is a series of single malt and blended malt whiskies from the Elixir Distillers portfolio dedicated to the legendary island of Islay.

It debuted in 2008 with the Lp1 edition. The "Islay Elements" are bottled at natural alcohol content and without chill filtration, either as a single cask or small batch (made from no more than 20 casks). The name of each edition is somewhat reminiscent of Mendeleev's Periodic Table of Elements, although the number after the symbol refers to the number of releases from a given distillery. The Cl14 presented here is the fourteenth edition of Caol Ili and contains whisky from four casks: a hogshead, American oak, distilled 2015; two Oloroso sherry butt casks, distilled 2012; and an Oloroso sherry butt cask, distilled 2013. The edition was released in 2022.

Aroma : fruity and smoky, smoked fish, seaweed, salted peanuts, dried figs and dates, raisins, caramel, lemon pepper and a pinch of ginger.

Palate: peat smoke, cherries, raspberries, smoked plums, orange peel, salted caramel, milk chocolate, cinnamon, candied ginger, sherry and oak.

Finish: quite long, with notes of peat smoke, dried herbs, coffee, chocolate and charred oak.
