Product description
The beginnings of the winery date back to 1962, when Paolo Minzolini and Giovanna Mimmi began working on a leased Merlotta estate. After many years of hard work, they managed to buy the estate back and so, in 1983, they fulfilled their dream of having their own vineyard. The following years brought gradual development until the next generation of the family, Rafaele and Nerio, joined the work. The new energy brought many investments in more cellars and plots with vines.
Currently, the company has 45 hectares of crops, and the vineyard houses the most modern technological solutions. This is dictated by the desire for constant development and drives further development, not forgetting family traditions at all times. This is reminded of by the brand's logo, two sea griffins inspired by a fresco found in the family home.
Merlotta Fondatori PG Sangiovese Superiore Riserva 2018 /14% / 0.75l
Very good quality wine from Romagna, made from 100% Sangiovese variety. Grapes used for production are subject to strict selection, then macerated and fermented for about 30 days. Then it spends 12 months in oak barrels and another year matures in the bottle. On the nose it is very harmonious and well-composed, full of notes of ripe red and black fruits, with a touch of spicy accents. On the palate it is rich but at the same time delicate, perfectly combining fruit flavors with notes of leather and coffee, as well as soft tannin. The finish is long and intense, with a chocolate nuance.
It tastes best when served at a temperature of 16-18 degrees. It is recommended to decant it before serving to ensure an optimal level of aeration, which will allow it to show all its strengths. In culinary combinations, it will work well with red meats, grilled or roasted, pasta in expressive sauces, as well as medium-aromatic cheeses.
