Kilchoman 100% Islay was introduced in 2011 and is marketed as ‘Scotland’s only Single Farm Single Malt Whisky’.
The whisky is distilled from barley harvested from the fields surrounding the distillery, malted and aged on site and released annually. The whisky used for the 12th edition was distilled from 2011, 2012 and 2013 barley crops (Publican variety) malted to specifications of 20ppm phenols and aged in 29 ex-bourbon barrels and six ex-Oloroso sherry butts). Kilchoman 100% Islay the 12th Edition was bottled of natural color, without chill filtration at 50% abv, and released on August 31, 2022. Only 12,500 bottles were produced.
Nose: vanilla, honey, toffee, lemon cake, milk chocolate, orange peel, apples, pears, raisins, roasted peanuts, dash of mixed spice and distant whiff of smoke.
Palate: vanilla, salted caramel, honeyed cereals, milk chocolate, lemon curd, green apples, pears, gooseberries, raisins, mixed nuts and sweet smoky notes.
Finish: fairly long and pleasantly smoky, with notes of vanilla cream, toffee, salted caramel, dash of lemon grass and oak.
