Product description
Black Bull whisky is the creation of George Willshire, a Dundee grocery and spirits shop owner, in 1864.
George's lucky number was probably 50, as his blend was 50% single malt, 50% grain and was bottled at 50% abv. The brand is now owned by Duncan Taylor Ltd, who re-branded and expanded the range in 2009. The Black Bulls are currently available at ages from 8 to 40 years old. The 21-year-old Black Bull presented here is a blend of 50% Speyside and Highland malts aged in sherry and bourbon casks and 50% grain. The whisky was bottled unchill-filtered at 50% abv.
Nose : slightly peaty, honey, vanilla, caramel, red apples, apricots, orange peel, cloves, a drop of balsamic vinaigrette, traces of sherry and oak.
Palate: vanilla cream, honey, toffee, sugar-roasted almonds, blood oranges, nutmeg, cloves, a hint of black pepper, peat and oak.
Finish: quite long, with notes of vanilla, toffee, black pepper, cinnamon, a touch of citrus and a trace of smoke in the background.
