Product description
Mizen Head whiskey was introduced in 2018 by West Cork Distillers Co.
West Cork Distillery was founded in 2003 by John O’Connell, Dennis and Ger McCarthy in Union Hall and ten years later moved to Skibbereen, where it operates to this day. West Cork is primarily focused on whiskey production (malt and grain), which currently accounts for 95% of the business, while its Garnish Island Gin makes up remaining 5%. The company uses only locally grown grain for whisky production and malts some of its barley. The distillery is equipped with four stills and both their malt and grain whiskeys are triple distilled in pot stills (the latter from wheat and malted barley). Mizen Head single malt whiskey was aged exclusively in Bodega sherry casks and bottled of natural color and without chill filtration.
Nose: smooth, malted barley, caramel, toffee, raisins, plums, hazelnuts, hints of allspice and sherried oak.
Palate: honey, caramel, milk chocolate, sugar-roasted nuts, raisins and sultanas, orange peel and dash of nutmeg.
Finish: medium long, with notes of sherry, caramel, raisins, milk chocolate, coffee and oak.
