Stork Club Distillery, founded 2004 as Spreewald Distillery, is located in Schlepzig, 60 kilometers south of Berlin.
The distillery has a history of producing wide range of spirits but in recent years the owners focused on rye whiskey. The whiskey is distilled from 100% German rye (part of which is malted) and aged predominantly in white American oak barrels for 3 to 5 years (small part of the spirit is matured in ex-sherry casks). Stork Club Rye scored several medals and awards, including Gold at the Meininger International Spirits Awards.
Nose: vanilla, caramel, Nutella, honey, dark chocolate, dried apricots, blackberries, orange peel, black pepper and toasted oak.
Palate: butterscotch, vanilla, caramel, hazelnuts, dark chocolate, raisins, gingerbread, licorice, hints of pine needles and oak.
Finish: medium long, with notes of caramel, toffee, vanilla, mixed berries marmalade, hints of pepper and mint and oak.
