Product description
The story of Diplomático rum began in Venezuela in 1959, when a distillery manufacturing all the company’s rums was established.
At that time Licorerías Unidas S.A. (LUSA) owned a distillery whose main shareholder was Seagrams. In 2002 LUSA was put up for sale. Local investors decided to grab that opportunity and placed an offer of purchase. That very same year LUSA became 100% private and assumed its present name: Destilerías Unidas S.A. (DUSA). The company is one of the largest rum manufacturers in Venezuela. In those countries where Diplomatíco had been registered as a trademark beforehand Botucal is an alternative name for the Diplomatíco brand. Botucal comes from the indigenous word “botuka”, which means “a green hill”, and refers to a hill situated in front of the distillery, a part of the Terepaima National Park.
Botucal Montuano Extra Añejo replaced Botucal Dimplomático Reserva Rum in the official company’s offer. It is a blend of spirits distilled in traditional copper pot stills, column stills and a hybrid column system referred to as Kettle Still. Its individual components matured for 8 years in ex-bourbon casks and casks that previously held Scotch single malt whisky. Its bouquet offers notes of cane sugar, toasted oak, dried fruits (raisins, figs and dates), caramel and spices.
