Product description
The Mhoba Distillery is located in Mpumalanga province in the east of South African Republic.
It’s a small, artisanal distillery which makes as many as 10 different types of rum. Founded in 2015 by Robert Greaves, whose family have been cultivating sugar cane in the area since 1980s. The inspiration for rum making came during a holiday in Mauritius. That is why Mhoba manufactures agricole-type rum, that is rum from fresh sugar cane juice, just like in the former English colony. Mhoba takes pride in the fact that their rums are not made with an addition of any kind of colourants, flavourings or sugar, and the rum is an effect of the rum-maker’s skills and the influence of wood that it is matured in.
Mhoba Select Reserve French Cask is a rum that matured for at least one year in French oak barrels that were previously used to hold South African red wine. Those barrels are re-charred prior to being used to mature the rum.
