DYC (Destilerias y Crianza) was founded in 1959 by Nicomedes Garcia Gomez, known as “the Father of Spanish whisky”.
In 1987 the company was acquired by Pedro Domecq, producer of sherry, and currently is owned by Beam Suntory. DYC whisky is distilled at Distilerio Molino del Arco located in Segovia. The distillery is equipped with pot stills and column stills and produces about 8 million liters of grain whisky and 1.2 million liters of malt; the brand sells well over one million cases annually. In 2019 the distillery celebrated its 60th Anniversary with the limited edition of single malt whisky, Edición Especial 60 Aniversario Nicómedes Garcia. The whisky was aged in first fill American oak barrels and bottled at 40% abv with an outrun of 12,857 bottles.
Nose: pretty sweet, malted barley, vanilla, honey, toffee, roasted almonds and nuts, marzipan, coconut flakes, dash of cinnamon and pepper.
Palate: smooth, vanilla cream, milk chocolate, orange peel, peaches, sugared almonds, candied ginger, white pepper and oak char.
Finish: medium long and pretty oaky, with notes of vanilla, honey, summer fruit, pepper, cinnamon and oak.
