Product description
Kanekou is a unique blended whisky produced by Shinzato Distillery based in Okinawa.
The oldest distillery in Okinawa (founded in 1846) is currently owned by Naoya Shinzato, a seventh-generation blender. Kanekou is a blend of three types of whiskey – single malt, wheat whiskey and rice whiskey (Ryukyu). The first two were aged for three years in American oak, while Ryukyu was aged for eight years in sherry barrels (the latter matures exclusively in the tropical climate of Okinawa). The brand belongs to Shin Group, a company founded in 2012 with a mission to promote “unique Japanese spirits”. In 2021, Kanekou Okinawa whiskey won a gold medal at the World Spirit Competition in San Francisco.
