Product description
In the spring of 2017 the Edrington Group revamped the Highland Park core range.
The new design is inspired by the period from around 800AD, when Orkney was ruled over by the Viking kingdoms of Denmark and Norway and comes from an ancient wooden church (Stavkirke) in the Norwegian village of Ornes heavily decorated with wooden carvings. The one adapted in the new, embossed bottle design shows a lion fighting the forces of evil in the form of serpent-like dragon. According to the press release the changes in the range will be only visual with the heart of each expression remaining the same. The 12 years old expression now called Viking Honor is a vatting of Highland Parks aged in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks with the majority of the latter.
Nose: rich and complex with distinctive sherry notes, heather, vanilla, honey, dark chocolate, apples, oranges, hints hay and peat smoke.
Palate: honey and peat smoke, vanilla, buttered toast, orange marmalade, pineapples, hints of oak and roasted chestnuts.
Finish: fairly long, with notes of honey, white pepper, oak and whiffs of peat smoke in the background.
