Product description
VAT 69 is the creation of Leith wine merchant William Sanderson from 1882. The story goes that he prepared 100 blends and invited a panel of friends to a blind tasting.
They unanimously chose the spirit from cask no. 69 as the winner. Within a few years, Sanderson purchased the Glen Garioch distillery and partially financed the construction of the North British grain distillery. VAT 69 owes its popularity to the famous explorer Ernest Shackleton, who took a dozen or so cases on an expedition to the Arctic in 1914. In 1937, the brand was added to the DCL portfolio, and currently belongs to Diageo. In the sales statistics of Scottish blends, it ranks 20th with a result of just over a million cases, and its main recipients are South America, Australia and Spain. The core of the current formula are Linkwood, Dailuaine, Clynelish and Teaninich malts, while grain whisky is supplied by Cameronbridge.
