Product description
Emperor is a project undertaken by two rum enthusiasts, Christophe Aulner and Bruno Le Merle, who met on Mauritius.
It is a relatively new brand of rums from Mauritius, where the tradition of sugar cane plantations and rum making date back to the early 18th century. Mauritius is famous for rum made from fresh sugar cane juice, instead of more traditional molasses, the so-called rhum agricole. Emperor suggests putting the two together – their rums are blends of molasses and cane juice rums vatted together. The name of the brand is a tribute to the British king George V, who was the sovereign of the island between 1910 and 1936, and who was a great enthusiast of rums, too.
Emperor Lily White is a blend of spirits distilled in pot stills and column stills. Despite it being colourless, the rum has actually been aged in American and French oak barrels for up to 12 years. Prior to bottling, an intricate filtration process is applied to remove the colouring.
