Product description
Dad's Hat Pennsylvania Rye is a product of Mountain Laurel Spirit, a microdistillery founded in 2010 by Herman C. Mihalich and John S. Cooper.
The distillery is based in Bristol, Pennsylvania, the birthplace of original American (i.e. rye) whiskey. The original Pennsylvania Rye was characterized by a high percentage of rye in the mash, and Dad's Hat seems to be returning to that tradition. Its formula is 85% rye (5% malted), with the remaining 15% malted barley. The Dad's Hat Vermouth Finish presented here, after spending 6-9 months in 15-gallon, new charred barrels, is placed for another 3-6 months in Californian Quady Vya sweet vermouth barrels.
Nose: strong rye tones, a mixture of dried herbs, pepper, vanilla, caramel, black tea and burnt oak.
Palate: spicy, alcoholic, black pepper, mint, cardamom, prunes, slice of wholemeal bread, herbal spice and charred oak.
Finish : medium long, with notes of pepper, dried herbs, chamomile tea, fennel and oak.
