The Old Particular range was introduced in September 2013 by Fred Laing, soon after he parted ways with his brother and business partner Stewart, splitting the portfolio of Douglas Laing & Co.
Old Particular is a counterpart to Old Malt Cask series, now part of Hunter Laing & Co. portfolio, and consists of single cask expressions of single malt and single grain whiskies sourced from all over Scotland. Talisker 9 years old presented here was distilled in November 2010 and aged in refill hogshead no. DL 13728. Bottled at 48.4% abv of natural color and without chill-filtration in November 2019 with an outrun of 365 bottles. With annual sales of over 3 million bottles (2018) Talisker is Diageo’s the second best selling single malt after The Singleton.
Nose: beach bonfire, sea breeze, seaweed, salted caramel, sweet cereals, vanilla, white pepper, lemon peel and traces of cigar ash.
Palate: malted barley, toffee, vanilla salt, milk chocolate, green apples, seaweed salad, dash of pepper and lemon grass and ash.
Finish: medium long, with notes of sea breeze, lemon peel, lemon grass, burnt sugar, vanilla and oak char.
