The series dedicated to Scottish personalities was primarily intended for Germany (one of main markets for Glenfarclas) and until the 10th Edition (Robert L. Stevenson) was bottled at cask strength.
Glenfarclas 1988 Vintage, Edition No. 22 is earmarked for Thomas Reid (1710-1796), a religiously trained Scottish philosopher, founder of the Scottish School of Common Sense and a crucial figure in the Scottish Enlightenment. Whisky used for the Thomas Reid edition was aged predominantly in refill sherry casks whisky and bottled unchill-filtered at 46% abv. Only 3600 bottles were produced.
Nose: fruity, peaches, apples, Mirabelle plums, pears, buttered toast, bitter orange marmalade, bunch of fresh herbs and oaky notes in the background.
Palate: fruity with pleasant spiciness, apples, apricots, oranges, passion fruit, nutmeg, cloves, pepper, hazelnuts, black tea and well-integrated oaky dryness.
Finish: very long, with notes of grapefruits, bitter oranges, mixed herbs, espresso, pepper, nutmeg and oak.
