Although Arthur Bell began vatting malt whiskies as early as early 1850s Bell’s name has not been used as a brand until 1904.
The whisky was called Bell’s Extra Special and remained part of the range until 2008, when Bell’s Original was introduced. In the late 1970s Bell’s became the best selling Scotch in the UK. Currently the brand is owned by Diageo and sells around 2.2 million cases annually what makes it the 11th best selling Scotch in the world. The main components in the current formula are Blair Athol, Inchgower and Dufftown with the addition of Glenkinchie and Caol Ila while majority of grain whisky comes from Cameronbridge Distillery.
Nose: slightly spirity, breakfast cereals, caramel, honey, apples, bunch of garden herbs, hints of hay and peat.
Palate: grainy, sweet cereals, caramel, vanilla, oatmeal cookies, dash of white pepper and hints of oak.
Finish: not too long, with notes of caramel, toasted grains, oak and dash of mixed spice.
