Product description
Mastery of Oak, a 2017 Johnnie Walker Private Collection edition, is the creation of the legendary Jim Beveridge and Aimée Gibson.
This whisky is the result of combining three blends, each showing a different side of oak. The first is a blend of malt and grain whisky aged mainly in fresh American oak barrels; the second is malt whisky from the Highlands and Speyside aged in refilled barrels (mainly American oak), and finally the final is malt and grain whisky from so-called experiments (barrels with different degrees of charring, barrels in which various spirits were previously aged and barrels seasoned with salt). The final blend was married in puncheon barrels. The edition consisted of 5,588 numbered, elegant decanters. (Producer's tasting note.)
Nose: A combination of vanilla, toffee and fresh orchard fruit enhanced by the sweetness released from the American oak.
Palate: rich notes of toffee, peach and baked apples, traces of blackcurrants and forest berries.
Finish : rich and intense, layers of vanilla sweetness.
